BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (14 Jan 2012) – Talented striker Adi Said has been selected to lead the Brunei frontline for the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy (HBT) 2012 slated for 25 February to 5 March.
Adi, who had played at the SEA Games last year, has been named alongside three other over-aged players for the tournament and they are defender Reduan Petara and midfielders Mohd Hendra Mohd Idris and Mohd Najib Tarif.
“The full squad will be announced shortly although we can count on the quartet’s understanding and experience to make the difference where hopefully, they can lead the country past the group stage for the first time,”” said Kwon Oh-son, the chief coach of Brunei.
A biennial tournament, the HBT is the brainchild of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who desired that an Under-21 football tournament be organised with the aim of increasing friendship and understanding between Southeast Asian youth through sports.
While previous editions in 2002, 2005 and 2007 were limited to players under the age of 21-years-old, this year marks the first time the organisers are allowing the registration of five over-aged players.
