BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (1 March 2012) – Hosts Brunei failed to take advantage after scoring the early goal when they allowed Vietnam to score twice as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat in Group B of the Hassanal Bokiah Trophy 2012 that was played at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium last night.
Striker Adi Said had given Brunei the best of start when he struck home the early goal just four minutes into the tie. The hosts then went on to press and deny Vietnam for long periods for the score to stand at 1-0 to Brunei’s advantage.
But just eight minutes into the second half, Phan Din h Tang grabbed the all important equalizer before Cao Xuan Thang nailed the winner deep in injury time.
The victory was Vietnam’s second following their earlier 2-1 win over Cambodia while the loss for Brunei was their first after beating Cambodia 3-2 in their first game of the season.
In the meantime, Cambodia conceded their third defeat of the competition this year when they fell to a close 1-0 loss to Timor Leste. What made the defeat harder to accept was the fact that Timor scored the winning goal deep in stoppage time off Januario de Jesus.
The Cambodians had earlier went down 2-1 to Vietnam and 3-2 to Brunei.
