BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN (7 Oct 2016) – Brunei’s preparation for the qualifying round of the AFF Suzuki Cup next week suffered a bump last night when they fell to a 2-0 loss to the Malaysian Under-22 side.
In the match that was played at the Stadium Tuanku Abdul Rahman in Paroi, substitute Muhd Syafiq Ahmad made all that difference for the Malaysian squad under Frank Bernhardt.
Following a first-half deadlock, the introduction of Muhd Syafiq allowed the Malaysians to score twice in the 74th and 84th minute.
For Brunei, the loss was a disappointment as they were looking to inject more confidence into the squad which will be playing in the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers in Cambodia against the hosts, Laos and Timor Leste.
They will still have the chance to make amends when they take on the same Malaysian side in two days at the same venue.
