HO CHI MINH CITY (3 Nov 2008) – The Brazilian Veterans team, fresh from their two-match stint in Myanmar, walked away with an easy 2-0 win over the Vietnam Under-23 squad at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
The more experienced Brazilians from Associacao Missao Esperanca (AME) controlled the match from end to end against a side which had only recently been crowned as the Merdeka Tournament champions. The score at the break was 0-0. But it took the Brazilians only six minutes into the second half to score their first goal when Giovanni converted a penalty after being brought down by Vietnam defender Chu Ngoc Anh. Five minutes later Giovanni, who was part of the Brazilian squad which emerged as the runners-up at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, slammed home his second goal from outside the penalty box for the win. The match is part of a fund raiser to help victims of cyclone Nargis which hit Myanmar earlier this year. Apart from the earlier matches against Thailand, Myanmar and wnoe the Vietnam U-23 squad, the AME team will also play two games against the Malaysian selection team. |
