PHNOM PENH (16 Sept 2012) – Debutants Boeung Ket Rubber Field FC destroyed the formbook to beat former champions Naga Corp FC 3-1 in the final to lift their first ever Metfone Cambodia League yesterday.
International striker Keo Sokgnorn provided the firing prowess for Boeung Ket when he put them ahead with two quick goals in the 13th and 17th minute. But the game, which will eventually saw eight yellow cards being brandished by referee Thong Chanketya, should have been Naga’s for the taking following the red card on Sin Dalin early in the 26th minute.
But Prak Sovannara’s men just could not find a way through Boeung Ket, where after trailing by two goals down at the half, they fell further behind just two minutes after the restart when Julius Oiboh scored the third goal Boeung Ket.
Naga did finally find the back of the net deep in injury time through Choun Chum but by then, it was already a little too late.
