JAKARTA (19 April 2015) – The QNB League 2015 will resume on 25 April after taking a break to sort out on-going tussle with the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The League had begun on 4 April and had played only two matches before PT Liga Indonesia – the organisers of the QNB League – decided to take a break on 12 April.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports through BOPI (the Indonesian Board of Professional Athletes) had raised issues with the inclusion of Arema Cronus and also Persebaya Surabaya into the 18-team top tier league.
Their main bone of contention was that these two clubs had not fully submitted several paperwork including taxation obligations which BOPI felt should be met before they should be allowed to play.
This led to a stinging letter from FIFA asking the Ministry of Youth and Sports not to continue to interfere with the running of the league as this might lead to a suspension on PSSI.
Following a meeting with all stakeholders of the 18 clubs a few days ago in Surabaya, it was felt that the QNB League will still continue as planned on 25 April.
