JAKARTA (31 March 2013) – The new BMW Stadium has been promised as the new home ground of Indonesian Super League (ISL) side Persija Jakarta by Joko Widodo, the mayor of Jakarta.
Jokowi, as he is more fondly known as, said that the 50,000 capacity BMW Stadium in the north of Jakarta will go into construction this year. BMW is the acronym for Clean Living and Responsible (taman Bersih Manusia dan berWibawa) Complex.
“Construction will begin this year,” said Jokowi.”The venue will be used for training, club headquarters as well as for league matches or international games.”
The expected cost of construction for the whole sport complex is around IDR 1.5 trillion (USD 154 million). Persija Jakarta’s previous home venue was the 15-000 capacity Lebak Bulus Stadium, which has been earmarked for redevelopment.
