HANOI (11 July 2008) – Anh Duy’s header in stoppage time gave Binh Duong a 2-1 win over Hai Phong for a place in the semi-finals as defending champions SLNA made the final of the Football Newspaper U17 Championship.
With the win, Binh Duong will take on Da Nang in the last four. Hai Phong took control of the semi final game early over an insecure Binh Duong side. And the team from the northern port city quickly exposed Binh Duong’s weak defence by attacking the flanks for Duc Hoa to steal a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half. But Binh Duong came out with all guns blazing after the break as they launched a flurry of attacks to pile the pressure on Hai Phong. Several errors in the penalty area gave Binh Duong a direct free kick which Duy Giang had little trouble in putting it past the keeper to close the gap in the 77th minute. Late in injury time, Anh Duy found the space and time to head the ball in as Binh Duong go through 2-1 to take Group B’s position on second at the table as Hai Phong were eliminated. IN THE MEANTIME, defending under-17 champions Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) go through to the final after defeating Binh Dinh 2-1 in the semi-finals at the Da Nang’s Chi Lang Stadium. SLNA played better and controlled the match from the start and where they went in front in the tenth minute with a goal by Dinh Bao. Phan Xuan Cuong doubled the score in the final minutes of the first half which prodded Binh Dinh to come back after the break where they duly scord in the 73rd minute. But that was as far as they got as SLNA rallied in defence all the way to the finish. |
