JAKARTA (14 April 2018) – With the decision to return Bima Sakti back as the assistant to Indonesia national Under-23 head coach Luis Milla, the question this week will be who will be appointed to lead the U19 for the AFC Championship later this year.
Bima was chosen as the head coach of the Indonesian U19 following the decision to do away with Indra Sjafri at the end of last year.
But after a bad result in just one game against Japan in which Indonesia conceded a 4-1 loss, the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) felt that it is better that Bima stick with the U23 squad.
“PSSI felt that Bima would be better as the assistant to Milla. We need a more focused team for the Asian Games,” said PSSI general secretary Ratu Tisha Destria.
With the U19 set for another centralised training camp, the question is now who will take over as the new head coach.
Indra (main pix) is a popular choice given his experience and the work that he has done with the U19 over the past year but another name has also been thrown into the hat and that is – Gerd Zeise.
The former Myanmar national coach was relieved of his duties last month and he is famous for having led the Myanmar U19 to the FIFA U20 World Cup in 2015.
