JAKARTA (22 May 2008) – German giants Bayern Munich showed a different class in front of more than 70,000 screaming fans at the Stadium Utama Gelora Bung Karno when they beat the Indonesia national team 5-1 in a friendly.
But in spite of the score line, Indonesia played a fast, offensive game led by the inspirational Ponaryo Astaman as they utilised a 4-3-3 formation as dictated by head coach Benny Dollo. In goal was Jendry Pitoy with the defensive line-up being Mahyadi Panggabean, Charis Yulianto, Maman Abdurahman and Ricardo Salampessy. In midfield was the trio of Ponaryo Astaman, Firman Utina and Syamsul Haeruddin with the frontline being Bambang Pamungkas, Ellie Aiboi and Budi Sudarsono. But there was no stopping the recently crowned German champions from going in front when Breno Borges scored the lead in the 21st minute before Jan Schlaudraff added further goals in the 24th and 35th minute for Bayern to be 3-0 in front at the half. Indonesia fought back after the break for Bambang to pull a goal back for the cheering fans on 66th minute as Bayern stepped up a gear to score further goals off Schlaudraff (82nd) and Toni Kroos 86th) for the win. |
