HO CHI MINH CITY (27 April 2009) – Two hundred and fifty kids in Vietnam got first hand experience training under three coaches from the Football Centre of Barcelona club.
In a three-day festival called “Just for Kicks”, the aim of the event was to encourage children between the ages of 10 to 14-years-old to play football. Apart from the kids who attended the festival at Hoa Lu ground, District 1 in HCM City, more than 30 local coaches were also involved in the programme. Joshua Thomson, Barcelona’s international business development director said that it was an interesting programme for coaches of the Barcelona Football Centre to be involved in. “We have never had football training activities in Vietnam and India. We know that there is a big community of Barcelona fans in Asia and this was a good chance for us to meet them,” said Thomson. The project first took place in Singapore in 2007 when over 400 kids played football under the instruction of coaches from Japan. The success in Singapore urged the YKK Asia to expand this programme to other countries. |
