HO CHI MINH CITY (7 March 2009) – Thai Son Nam made it two titles in two years when they grabbed the 2nd VFF National Futsal Championship by thrashing Tan Phong Gia Lai 9-2 in the final.
The defending champions completed the tournament this year with six wins, one draw and one loss for their second national title in a row and win the VND20 million (USD 1,140) prize money on offer. Head coach Pattaya Piemkum said afterwards that he was generally satisfied with the performance of his players and where he was pleased that they were able to retain the championship crown for the second year running. “Although Vietnam have not taken to Futsal as did Thailand, Malaysia or Indonesia, I believe that the Vietnamese are making great progress in the sport,” said the former Thai Futsal head coach. “If the Vietnamese national team can gather and train continuously for three months and then take part in various international competitions to hone their skills, I think that they are capable of beating opponents such as Malaysia and Indonesia.” Dat Lanh’s Nguyen Duy Linh, Thai Son Bac’s goalkeeper Nguyen Van Huy and Hoang Thu Da Nang’s Huynh Van Phuc with 11 goals were all awarded with individual prizes which comes with a prize money of VND2 million (USD 115) each.
