HO CHI MINH CITY (5 May 2015) – As expected, the Australia Under-20 team won Group A of the AFF Women’s Championship when they strolled to an all too easy 7-0 win over Indonesia here tonight at the Thong Nhat Stadium.
While the Indonesian girls tried hard to protect their goal line, it was not going to be an easy outing as Australia threw everything they had in search of the early goal.
And it took them just ten minutes before they prised open the cagey Indonesian defence with a thunderous shot from Jordan Baker that came off the underside of the crossbar.
Indonesia then regrouped and worked hard to break the Australian attack and even at one point managed to go forward but Erma Karafir just lacked the pace to be effective.
In the 26th minute, Princess Ibini-Isei fired in from a tight angle as Baker then grabbed her second of the evening three minutes later.
The first half ended 5-0 to Australia’s advantage with Emily Condon (32nd minute) and Alexandra Chidiac (43rd) making the score sheet.
The game went down a notch in the second half as Australia added only two more goals through captain Olivia Price (56th) and Condon (60th).
Australia’s opponent in the semi-finals will only be known tomorrow after the end of the Group B matches.
