SINGAPORE (23 May 2013) – A Singapore Selection side fell to a 2-0 loss to Spanish giant Athletico Madrid at the Jalan Besar Stadium last night in the game that was also used as a fundraiser.
Atletico Madrid found the back of the net off goals from Raul Garcia in the 29th minute and also Diego Costa two minutes to the end.
“The players come from different teams and only had two training sessions together, but they played according to my instructions,” said V. Sundramoorthy, the coach of Singapore Selection.
“The speciality of the Spaniards’ play is their build-up play – they can keep and pass the ball well, they can play wall passes with their off-the-ball movement. However we kept them in contract apart from a few lapses in concentration.”
A total of SGD 756,143 was raised for the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship.
