DILI (13 March 2015) – All three ASEAN teams – Timor Lest, Brunei and Cambodia – hit the right notes in their opening qualifying campaign for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ last night.
Timor Leste thumped over Mongolia 4-1 as Brunei Darussalam edged Chinese Taipei 1-0 and Cambodia whitewashing Macau 3-0.
In DILI at the National Stadium, the visiting Mongolian side struggled to make their presence felt against a side keen on the Samba off a double from Chiquito do Carmo to be followed by further goals from Rodrigo Silva (84th minute) and Jairo Neto (85th).
Mongolia nailed a consolation goal three minutes to the end off Batmonkhiin Erkhembayari.

The win for Brunei had at least gave them certain consolation considering that they had lost by five goals the last time the two sides met.
In Phnom Penh at the National Olympic Stadium, the home team struck late after the break before they were able to dispose Macau 3-0.
Following the first half deadlock, midfielder Chan Vathanaka grabbed a double off goals in the 64th and 81st minute as Khoun Laboravy then wrapped up things up deep in injury time.
The return tie will be played on 17 March 2015.
