SINGAPORE (20 January 2025) – PSM Makassar could become the first club to secure a place in the semi-finals of the inaugural Asean Club Championship Shopee Cup™ on Wednesday when Bernardo Tavares’ side travels to Malaysia to take on Terengganu FC in Group A.
A win for the Indonesian outfit would mean both Vietnam’s Đông Á Thanh Hóa FC and BG Pathum United FC from Thailand would have to pick up three points in their respective fixtures to deny PSM a spot in the competition’s last four.
PSM have collected seven points from their three matches so far, giving Tavares’ team a two-point lead over Đông Á Thanh Hóa and BG Pathum United, with two rounds of the group phase remaining.
Đông Á Thanh Hóa face a tricky tie against Svay Rieng FC with the Cambodians, currently in fourth on three points, retaining their own hopes of advancing. Victory would reignite the chances of Pep Munoz and his team claiming a top two finish.
BG Pathum United, meanwhile, travel to Yangon to take on a Shan United side still looking for their first point in the group phase after three consecutive defeats.
Vietnam’s Công An Hà Nội FC could also guarantee their progress from Group B on Thursday with Mano Polking’s side holding a three point lead over the chasing back with two matches remaining.
The table-toppers travel to take on a Kuala Lumpur City FC side attempting to bounce back from a 2-0 loss to Lion City Sailors FC on Matchday Three.
Victory for Công An Hà Nội would earn the club a semi-final berth while a win for Kuala Lumpur City would boost the Malaysian side’s hopes of advancing with one round of matches remaining.
Thai League 1 champions Buriram United FC face off against Lion City Sailors with the Singaporeans hoping to build on their first win in the competition against Kuala Lumpur City two weeks ago.
Buriram United currently occupy second place in the standings with six points, ahead of Kuala Lumpur City on goal difference. Borneo FC Samarinda are in fourth on three points, level with Lion City Sailors ahead of the Indonesians clash with last-placed Kaya FC-Iloilo of the Philippines.
The six Shopee Cup™ matches on January 22nd and 23rd will be broadcast LIVE on domestic television networks and streaming platforms listed below.
