HANOI (23 Nov 2018) – Vietnam will head into tomorrow’s match against Cambodia knowing nothing short of a spectacular win and their place as Group A winners will suffice for the expectant populace.
While Vietnam may be unbeaten in three matches, their numbers in terms of possessions in their last two games against Malaysia and Myanmar drew concerns and something which head coach Park Hang-seo knows need improvements.
“We did not have as much possessions as we would have liked in the games against Malaysia and also Myanmar. I have spoken to the team about this and they know it only too well that this is something which we need to work on,” said Hang-seo.
“The mission tomorrow would be to not only play better but also reach the target which is to emerge as group winners.
“The Cambodian team under the new head coach (Keisuke Honda) seems to have improved but for me, we still have to show good performance to win the game. That is important.”
Vietnam current share the top spot in Group A alongside Myanmar with seven points although the latter take spot due to better goal difference.
While Vietnam will take on Cambodia, the Myanmarese will entertain Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur needing just a point to make the next round.
The Malaysians will have to beat Myanmar should they aspire to book their place in the semi-finals.
With the status quo as such, Hang-seo said that he will be putting up his best eleven for the match although a few players are currently on one yellow card.
“The best players will play tomorrow. I am not thinking of the semi-finals at the moment. I am just aiming for the full points against Cambodia”
