JAKARTA (14 Nov 2018) – Honor Man of the Match Andik Vermansyah is just glad to be in the national team and he does not mind playing in any positions as long as he gets to play.
After missing out on the finals two years ago against Thailand, the nippy striker-attacking midfielder-winger was back at his best last night as his darting runs made all the difference against Timor Leste.
He might not have scored a goal but alongside Riko Simanjuntak in the second half, the duo had a hand in every goal that Indonesia scored.
“I can play anywhere,” exclaimed Andik, who plies his trade with Kedah in the Malaysian Super League.
“Left, right down the middle, anywhere. As long as I get to play for Indonesia, I will play anywhere.
“Against Timor Leste, we were under a bit of a pressure. We wanted to go for the early goal but we fell behind instead. I am glad that we recovered in the second half.”
Andik is one of the better talents that have come out of Indonesia in the last ten years.
The 26-year-old was a product of Persebaya Surabaya in East Java and where he played for them in 2008-2012.
He stated previously that he will only play for the Surabaya club and none other in Indonesia and it is for that reason he signed to play for Selangor in the Malaysian Super League for 2013-2017.
Andik currently plays for Kedah in the Malaysian Super League and is considered as the highest paid footballer in Indonesia.
“Riko (Simanjuntak) made a lot of difference when he came in but more importantly, all of us played as a team, so there is no saying that one player is better than another,” added Andik.
