BACOLOD CITY (12 Nov 2018) – Sven Goran Eriksson, the newly appointed head coach of the Philippines, is ‘excited’ at the prospect of playing against Singapore in his first match in charge.
The well-travelled Swede will be at the helm when the Philippines opened their AFF Suzuki Cup campaign against Singapore at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.
“I was impressed by Singapore and how they played against Indonesia. This is a new experience for me,” said Eriksson.
“I am excited and looking forwards to our first match against Singapore.”
Eriksson, who took England to the FIFA World Cup in 2002 and 2006, has the utmost respect for Singapore head coach Fandi Ahmad after watching the Lions beat Indonesia.
The Swede was at the National Stadium to watch the Singapore-Indonesia clash.
“I am not worried (after watching Singapore beat Indonesia). They deserved to win,” added Eriksson. “They have good two good strikers and they play direct good football.
“We have to play well to beat them.”
This is Eriksson’s first sojourn to the region where he will also handle the team to next year’s AFC Asian Cup Finals.
