KUALA LUMPUR (29 Nov 2012) – Indonesia had never beaten Singapore in this tournament previously and they were all motivated to deliver a good result against the Lions last night.
Striker Irfan Bachdim explained that the team wanted to make up for the opening result against Laos. “We fought really hard. We played as a team but above all, I think we were hungrier for the win than Singapore.”
“We were the better team today and deserved to win to get back on track.” he added. “Our motivation is to bring the trophy home for the first time.”
Indonesia have finished second four times and are determined to finally win the AFF Suzuki Cup this time around.
Coach Nil Maizar meanwhile said that he was proud of his players’ performance against Singapore. “They had the spirit and the will to fight to the end. Andik did a fine job with the goal.”
He is hopeful the team will give another good account of themselves in the final group game against Malaysia in two days.
The match is set to be a sizzler as both sides have to win to ensure their place in the semi-finals. Indonesia may be able to move on with a draw but not Malaysia.
