HANOI (12 Nov 2012) – The friendly match against Gremio is off. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) made the decision following the failure of the Brazilian club to give due confirmation.
The math between the Vietnam national team and Gremio was initially slated for 15 November. Plans to play a friendly against a club from Japan have also fallen through.
“According to the plan, the national team will have at least one more friendly match before the AFF Cup. It does not matter whether we play against a foreign or a local,” said Ngo Le Bang, the general secretary of the VFF.
“A foreign team would be better. However, it is more important for the national squad to work on their line-up, tactics and avoid injury.”
Vietnam’s next opponent will be a test match against local side Khanh Hoa FC on 15 November. For the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012, Vietnam have been placed in Group A against hosts Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar.
