MANILA (19 Nov 2012) – The Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila has been put in a rush to get the nod from the organisers of the AFF Suzuki Cup following an inspection visit earlier this month.
With the AFF Suzuki Cup just days away, the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) are hoping that they will be allowed to use the Rizal Memorial Stadium should the team make the semi-finals this year.
“Approval is pending improvement of the pitch,” said Ebong Joson, the PFF head of communications. “There are uneven sections that need to be addressed.”
Two years ago, the Philippines were forced to play the home leg of their AFF Suzuki Cup semifinal series in Jakarta after inspection visit to the country found no suitable venue.
The PFF alongside the Philippine Sports Commission, who own and manage the stadium, are speeding up work to make it the home of the Philippines should they advance to the semifinals of the AFF Suzuki Cup.
“The PSC have, of course, agreed to fast track the work so that we can host the potential home games,” Joson added, who confirmed that the stadium’s lighting facilities have already been upgraded.
