YANGON (13 Oct 2012) – Hosts Myanmar will have to sweat it out today when they face Laos in their final qualifying game at the Youth Training Centre Stadium here. With the match kicking-off at 3.00pm (local time), Myanmar will not only have to deal with the hot and humid conditions but also face a battling Laos side fighting for a place in the Final Round.
While Myanmar have nine points and only require a draw to confirm their berth, Laos are still in the running. With six points in the bag, they need to defeat Myanmar and hope that Timor Leste slip-up in their last game against Brunei this evening.
Myanmar have been unbeatable thus far and will want to end the tournament with a flourish by amassing maximum points and in the process raise the qualifying trophy. A win will see Myanmar join Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam in a very difficult Group A in the Final Round with.
The only was Myanmar will fail to advance is if they lose to Laos by five goals, which will be a long shot, and Timor Leste defeat Brunei. In that instance, Timor will top the standings with Laos finishing second.
With so much at stake, one can be sure that Myanmar will not be taking any chances and will be going flat out to get the results. But so will Laos and Timor Leste. Overall, fans can expect some exciting action this afternoon.
