HANOI (14 Nov 2012) – Unlike previous practices, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have now decided not to offer cash incentives or set target for the national team’s mission at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012.
Vietnam – the winner of the regional championship in 2008 – will open their campaign this year in Group A in Bangkok where they will be against hosts Thailand, the Philippines and Myanmar.
But Nguyen Trong Hy, the president of the VFF said this week, the federation has decided to stop with the offer of rewards.
“Playing for the national team is the responsibility and honour of every player. There will have bonus but we will not promise to give bonus for the national team at the upcoming AFF Cup 2012,” said Trong Hy.
“We will take care of all the needs of the national team carefully, in terms of accommodations and food.
“There will also be no specific target for the team. The objective of the team at the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 is to finish as high as possible.”
The VFF had always offered reward previously before major tournaments where at the 26th SEA Games, the bonus offered to the team was close to USD 1 million.
