CEBU CITY (15 Nov 2012) – A missed penalty cost Singapore dearly when Marwin Angeles struck the only goal in the second half for the Philippines to score a 1-0 win in a friendly that was played at the Javellana Sports Complex in Cebu City tonight.
The win for the Philippines was their second over the Lions following their 2-0 victory two months ago at the Jurong West Stadium.
In a closely contested affair, the Philippines had two players picking up yellow cards through Emelio Caligdong and Rob Gier. But the concession of a penalty in injury time of the first half gave Singapore what should have been an advantage.
However, Shi Jiayi totally muffed his shot as he failed to beat the relatively inexperienced keeper Eduard Scapano – who is standing in following the absence of Neil Etheridge.
That failure to find the back of the net, gave the confidence back to the Philippines where just ten minutes after the breather, Marwin Angeles scored the only goal in the game to give the Philippines a morale boosting win ahead of their challenge for the AFF Suzuki Cup in less than ten days.
