BANGKOK (8 Nov 2012) – After seeing off defending ASEAN champions Malaysia in a friendly last night, Thailand will take on Bhutan and Bangladesh next as they gear up to restore their place as the kingpins of regional football.
The Thais showed that despite the lack of time they had with the players and even though they were missing the likes of Datsakorn Thonglao and Teerasil Dangda, the hosts still had the firepower to shut down Malaysia to score twice through Prayad Bunya and Arthit Sunthornpit.
“We played well but we still have a lot to do before the tournament begins,” said Winfried Schaefer, the chief coach of Thailand.
Thailand will play Bhutan on 14 November before taking on Bangladesh three days later.
For the AFF Suzuki Cup 2012 the Thais – three time winners in 1996, 2000 and 2002 – are in Group A in Bangkok against Vietnam, the Philippines and Myanmar.
