HANOI (6 Dec 2016) – There are probably a great many things that coaches Nguyen Huu Thang of Vietnam and Alfred Riedl of Indonesia might not agree on.
But if there’s one thing which they were in unison this morning at the pre-match press conference, it was that the decisive game tomorrow at the My Ding National Stadium will not be decided by penalties.
Vietnam will entertain Indonesia in the second leg, semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup 2016 here in Hanoi with the latter leading the series 2-1 after the first leg in Bogor.
“I don’t expect the game to go into penalties. It will be decided within regulation,” said Riedl.
“I don’t mind losing the friendly, but not this game. I believe that this game should not be down to luck (like in penalties). That is just so unfair.”
Added Huu Thang: “yes, it will not be down to penalties. Some 20 years ago, I was his pupil and tomorrow I will get the chance to pit tactics with him again after Bogor.
“I know that there are a lot of comments from all quarters. But at the end of the day, I am the coach and I choose the players. And I will choose the best players for this crucial game. And because of that I will be responsible.”
