JAKARTA (24 Jan 2012) – Utility player Andik Vermansyah has been singled out as the key for Indonesia when they open their campaign in the Hassanal Bolkiah Trophy 2012 next month.
The 2002 winners of the HBT have been hard at work over the past month in West Java under recently appointed chief coach Widodo Putro. There are currently 25 players in the team with Widodo expected to trim the team down to just 18 before the departure to Bandar Seri Begawan.
“Andik is already playing at a higher level with the Under-23 team and I see no reason why he cannot play alongside players who are much younger than him. His position in the team is crucial,” said Widodo.
“Andik can play at several positions including as strikers, wingers and second strikers. We need a versatile player like him.”
As part of tuning up the squad, Widodo has lined up matches against the Indonesia Under-17 team, the PSB Bogor U21 team and also the Hyundai Ulsan team from South Korea (on 9 or 11 February 2012).
