JAKARTA (3 July 2012) – The mercurial Andik Vermansyah has been confirmed to join the Indonesia Under-22 squad for their campaign in the AFC U22 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The Indonesian team has been placed in Group E of the qualifying round against Australia, Japan, Singapore, Macau and Timor Leste. The group will play all their matches at either the Riau Main Stadium or the Kaharudin Nasution Stadium in Pekanbaru, Indonesia.
The first game of the qualifiers will be on 5 July 2012.
“Andik will join the squad,” said Aji Santoso, the chief coach of the Indonesia U22 team. “The reason why Andik is a little late in joining the squad was because he was nursing an ankle injury. He is past it now, so he will join the team.”
In the meantime, the Indonesia U22 ended their final friendly game with a 4-0 thrashing of PON Riau.
