PALEMBANG (Dec 7, 2010) – Striker Amri Yahyah scored twice to lead Malaysia to a 5-1 win over Laos at the Jakabaring Stadium here tonight and also a place in the semifinals after Thailand faltered in their match against Indonesia a few hundred miles to the south in Jakarta.
Amri got the game underway with his opening strike in the third minute but it was cancelled out by Laos striker Lamnao Singato just four minutes later. Amri shot through the defence to send Malaysian ahead in the 38th minute. After the break, and in under very heavy conditions due to the downpour, Mohd Amirulhadi Zainal put his team in a more comfortable position in the 73rd minute before 100PLUS FAM Player of the Year, Norshahrul Idlan Talaha made it 4-1 three minutes later. Laos skipper Kitsada inadvertently netted an own goal to make it a horrid day for the team. Malaysian coach K. Rajagobal praised Indonesia and its coach for their professionalism. “Their win shows that they are a professional team. I would like to thank them playing their best,” said the Malaysian. Booth meanwhile was not too pleased with his team. He said the defence was loose which led to the goals. |
