YANGON (15 Jan 2016) – Emerson Alcântara is no longer the coach of Myanmar champions Yangon United- after just two months in the job.
The Brazilian, who had previously been in charge of Timor Leste, was brought in from relegated-side Manaw Myay FC but several unimpressive results had left him out of the ambitious club from the capital.
While Alcantara’s Yangon had began well with a 5-2 win over Lao Toyota in the Toyota Mekong Club Championship in his first game in charge, a 3-0 loss away to Cambodian champions Angkor FC was a disappointment to the four-time Myanmar champions.
He then led Yangon to the Myanmar Charity Cup with a close 1-0 win over Ayeyawady United although an embarrassing 2-1 loss to Magwe FC at home in his first Myanmar National League (MNL) 2016 match sealed his fate.
U Tin Maung Tun has been appointed as caretaker manager.
