YANGON (19 Nov 2015) – Former Timor Leste coach Emerson Alcântara has been unveiled as the new coach of Yangon United – the multi-time winners of the Myanmar National League (MNL).
Alcantara’s immediate task would be to prepare the squad for the Mekong Club Championship which begins this week – minus all four of their imports who have made the decision not to return to the club for the new season.
But the capital-based team has since signed Edison Luiz Dos Santos, a striker who had once played under Alcântara at Brazilian second-flight side XV de Piracicaba.
“I understand that Yangon United FC is the most famous club in Myanmar and my agent has told me of the success that Brazilian players have had here. That’s why I signed with Yangon,” Edison said.
Yangon will take on Lao Toyata FC at Thuwunna YTC Stadium at 4pm on 22 November in the first round of the regional Mekong Club Championship.
