JAKARTA (24 Feb 2012) – With Indonesia already out of contention for a place in the next round of the 2014 World Cup Aji Santoso, the caretaker coach of the Indonesia national team, is keeping his eyes on the SEA Games in 2013 when they take on Bahrain in their final qualifying round in Manama on 29 February.
Aji, who was appointed as the Indonesia Under-23 team coach, had to take over the spot albeit temporarily left vacant by Wim Rijsbergen.
“My target is beyond Bahrain as afterall we are alreadu out of a place in the next round, so this game is a perfect opportunity to give the young players some running time,” said Aji.
“While we want to be competitive against Bahrain, we also have to look beyond it which is the next SEA Games which is next year in Myanmar.”
Even though the team list is not confirmed yet, it is believed Aji will give opportunity to the likes of Diego Michiels, Muhammad Aulia Ardhi, Ricky Akbar Ohorella and several others.
“We will be bringing several young players to Bahrain for sure to give them an international competitive match,” he added.
Indonesia are in Group E of the qualifiers against Bahrain, Qatar and Iran.
