JAKARTA (16 April 2012) – Aji Santoso, the joint chief coach of the Indonesia Under-23 team, has called a total of 17 players from the ‘rebel’ Indonesia Super League (ISL) and 21 players from the Indonesia Premier League (IPL) to form the training squad for the SEA Games in Myanmar next year.
Following the earlier announcement from the FA of Indonesia (PSSI) that they are allowing players from the ISL to be included in future Indonesia national teams, the announcement by Aji this week showed that the national body is taking positive steps forward towards reconciliation.
“I am just thankful to be included in the national U23 side. I hope that we can all come together for the national cause,” added Kurniawan Karman, one of five players from PSM Makassar. The others are Aditya Putra Dewa, Rasul Zainuddin, Muhammad Azwar and Rasyid Assahid Bakri.
The team which has Widodo Putro as the joint chief coach, is also being prepared for the friendly match against Inter Milan on 24 May 2012.
