JAKARTA (1 July 2022) – In a group that many consider the Group of Death, rotation will be key as Indonesia look to make an impact in front of their home fans when they kick off their campaign in the AFF Under-19 Boys Championship 2022 tomorrow at the Patriot Stadium.
Other than Indonesia, Group A also has Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei Darussalam and Myanmar.
“We will have to work hard for all the matches and considering that we will play several games in a short period of time, we will have to test all the players. So we have to be prepared for rotation,” said Indonesia head coach Shin Tae-yong.
“We started our training camp on 20 June 2022 which means that we only had about ten days together. We do not have much information on the rest of the teams, so we will have to be ready as well as we can.”
Added Thailand head coach Salvador Garcia: “We respect all the teams here and we have studied several of them including host Indonesia and Vietnam.
“The atmosphere playing against Indonesia will be great and it is something which we all look forward to. For us, rotation will be key considering the number of games in the group.”
Vietnam head coach Dinh The Nam: “It is a tough situation having to play so many matches within a short period of time. But this issue is faced by all teams here, so we have to prepare as well as we can which means that we have to utilise all the players available.”
Philippines head coach Pedimonte Edim: “For the tournament here, we would like to showcase the talent of our players. It is a very tough group but we will try our very best to give a good account of ourselves.”
Brunei head coach Faizalani Abdul Ghani: “We did not have much of a preparation considering that we were still struggling with Covid-19 at the start of the year. Whatever the case may be, we are really glad to be here to compete against some of the toughest teams in the region.”
Myanmar head coach Soe Myat Min: “We had about ten weeks to prepare for this tournament. We are in an extremely tough group considered the Group of Death. But we will try our very best to be competitive.”
