PALEMBANG (4 July 2018) – It was another round of high scores on the third match day of Group A of the AFF Women’s Championship when a total of 20 goals were scored in the two games that was played here at the Bumi Sriwijaya Stadium.
Firm favourites and defending champions Thailand whipped Cambodia 11-0 while the Under-20 Australia pummelled Timor Leste 9-0.
After picking up the first three points against Timor Leste two days earlier, Thailand were all fired up for their second win in the group.
The Thai girls, who will be playing in the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year in France, certainly did not take too long to underline their pedigree with Suchawadee Nildhamrong striking home the fifth minute lead connecting a cross from Siliawan Intamee.
Suchadwadee went on to score three more goals in the eighth, 52nd and 72nd minute to complete her four-goal haul.
The other goals for Thailand were scored by Silawan Intamee in the 12th minute, Sudarat Chuchuen (27th), Rattikan Thongsombut (33rd and 82nd), Pitsamai Somsai (38th), Nipawan Panyosuk (58th) and Alisa Rukpinij (75th).
“The team has improved from the first game and I think that we have rectified several things,” added Thai head coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian.
In the meantime, a second string U20 Australia side was still good enough to beat Timor Leste 9-0.
It was Australia’s second win after blasting Malaysia 7-0 in their first game in the group.
Cortnee Brooke Vine was on the double with goals in the 11th and 18th minute to be followed by Tory Mary Tumeth (37th), Amy Joan Irene Sayer (55th), Kyra Lilee Cooney-Cross (59th), Amy Joan Irene Sayer (65th), Rasamee Phonsongkham (72nd), Rachel Georgia Wehl Lowe (79th) and Karly Roestbankken (86th)
