YANGON (11 Sept 2013) – A hat-trick from Nisa Romyen propelled Thailand to the top of Group A when she led them to a 4-0 win over Jordan in the AFF Aya Bank Women’s Championship 2013 here at the Youth Training Centre.
The win was Thailand’s first following their scoreless draw against Vietnam on the first matchday of the competition but which was enough for them to lead the standings with four points.
In what was perhaps the best match of the tournament thus far, both teams went all out in search of the early goal with Nisa testing Jordanian keeper Zina Ismail Al Sadi early in the second minute with a crisp shot that missed the upright.
And while Nisa might have missed another golden opportunity seven minutes later, there was no stopping her from taking the lead in the 12th minute with a rising half volley to the far post that had Zina Ismail well beaten.
With Jordan opting to bring in the pacey Shahnaz Yaseen Jebreen in the starting line-up, it gave all sorts of problems to the Thai backline as defender Khwanrudi Saengchan struggled to keep a lid on her movements as the score remained at the break.
Nisa was again on the prowl into the second half and in the 59th minute, she turned provider for Rattikan Thongsombut to score. Then came two quick goals within the space of just two minutes (74th and 75th minute) for Nisa to complete her hat-trick when she squeezed in past the two Jordanian centrebacks for the slightest of tap-ins ahead of Zina Ismail.
