VIENTIANE (16 Oct 2011) – Vietnam and Laos did not have to break up a sweat on the first match day of the AFF Women’s Championship 2011 when they each romped to easy victories over their hapless opponents at the National Stadium.
The defending champions whitewashed Singapore 9-1 as hosts Laos then followed it up with a 11-0 thrashing of Indonesia in the second match.
Nguyen Thi Hoa scored a personal best with four goals, finding the target in the 11th, 28th, 45th and 74th minute following the opening goal from Huynh Nhu early in the seventh minute.
While Singapore did manage to score their only goal of the game off Siti Liyana Yahya’s half volley in the 13th minute, they could not prevent Vietnam from scoring the remainder of the goals off Nguyen Thi Kim Tien (25th minute), Le Thi Thuong (37th minute) as Nuynh Nhu wrapped up her hat-trick with further goals in the 65th and 78th minute.
Laos on the other hand, were all inspired from the overwhelming performance in the first game and were determined not to lose out in front of the several thousand home fans.
As early as the third minute, Laos were already in front off Ting Sengmany before striker Souphavanh Phayvanh put up a splendid display to nail a hat trick just before the break.
Souphavanh were unstoppable as she broke through the Indonesian defence in the 15th, 22nd and 37th minute.
Laos’ other goals were scored by Sochitta Phonhalath in the 53rd minute and two penalties in the 62nd and 90th minute, Soutdaoloung Phasiri (64th minute), Manivanh Bounthan (65th), Lololy Bouakeo (78th) and Johnny Sayasanh (84th).
Indonesia gained a penalty at the end but Henny Yigibalom totally muffed the chance for their first goal of the game.
