JAKARTA (17 Aug 2011) – Indonesia are focussing all their attention for the AFF Women’s Championship 2011 which will be hosted by the Laos Football Federation in October.
Following the recent change in personnel at the Indonesia FA (PSSI), the immediate task for the new office bearers is on preparing a team for the AFF meet rather than working on having a women’s league or any other development programme.
“If we are talking about programmes, then we will have to shelve it for the moment. There are a lot of issues with women’s football in Indonesia, so we have to look at every possible angle before we can put a programme in place if we want it to be a fruitful programme,” said Tuty Dau, the chairwoman of the PSSI Women’s Football Committee.
For the moment, Tuty is busy with meeting up with all the stakeholders of women’s football in Indonesia where the immediate task is to prepare a squad for the AFF Women’s Championship in October.
“Getting a sponsor for women’s football is not easy, but whatever the case may be, we will do our best to develop the sport,” he added.
Indonesia at one time were the powerhouse in women’s football in Asia when they finished fourth at the Asian Cup 1977 and also in 1986.
But their fortunes have dwindled since then where at the ASEAN level, they finished fourth at the SEA Games in 2003.
