HANOI (1 Sept 2011) – Following the disappointment in not qualifying for the final round of the 2012 Olympic Games qualifiers, Vietnam have decided to use the AFF Women’s Championship 2011 in October to bleed new players.
The defending champions will be taking part in the tournament this year with seven other teams from the region in Vientiane, Laos on 16-25 October.
As part of effort to build up a new Vietnam national team, chief coach Chan Yun Fat has called only four veterans – Kieu Trinh, Kim Tien, Le Thi Thuong and Nguyen Thi Muon – who have played in several SEA Games.
The four players will form part of the 23-strong squad which will begin training on 5 September 2011 in Hanoi.
Among the newcomers are Tuyet Dung who was voted the best player in the National Women’s Under-19 Football Championship recently alongside Hai Hoa and Bui Thi Nhu – replacing the old midfield trio of Ngoc Anh, Nhieu Thuy Linh and Nguyen Thi Nga.
After Hanoi, the team will move to Vinh Phuc Province’s Tam Daa before leaving for China in early October.
For the AFF meet, Vietnam are in Group A against Indonesia, Singapore and hosts Laos. Group B are Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.
