HANOI (24 Sept 2016) – Vietnam took third place in the AFF Vietcombank Under-19 Championship when they beat Timor Leste 4-0 in the classification match this afternoon at the Hang Day Stadium.
Having missed out on the main prize did not deter Vietnam one bit as they were determined to put up a much better performance than what they had shown in the semi-final match two days earlier.
Ha Duc Chinh was the first to have a first real crack at goal before Vietnam finally grabbed the lead in the 24th minute with Tran Van Thai Quy delivering the cross for Tran Thanh to finish from close range.
Four minutes later, Vietnam doubled the advantage with Duc Chinh finally finding the back of the net off a long cross from captain Ho Tan Tai.
The hosts then trooped off into the dressing room comfortable at 3-0 in front with Phan Thanh Hau beating Timor keeper Aderito Fernandes for the third time on the night.
With the weather taking a turn for the worse following heavy downpour the second half had to be postponed to half an hour later.
With the pitch a little soggy, it took the pace off the game somewhat as Timor continued to defend and Vietnam just wrapping things up with the fourth goal of the game through Le Ngoc Bao a minute to the end.
