BANGKOK (20 August 2014) – It was one way street all the way as Vietnam pulverised hapless Timor Leste with a whopping 19-0 on the third matchday of the AFF Under-19 Women’s Championship that was played this afternoon at the Rajamangala Stadium.
With the win and with Hoang Thi Muoi recording a personal best with five goals to her name, it has allowed Vietnam to take over the lead in the standings from Thailand, who had an off-day today.
“We knew that Timor will not put up much of a resistance,” said Vietnam coach Nguyen Duy Hung after the match. “So we rested our regular players so that they will be fresh for the next match (against Thailand).
“It was good that we won today but it was just another work out in preparation for the big game.”
For Timor Leste, the afternoon was always going to be hard especially when they had just conceded a 17-0 loss to hosts Thailand, just two days earlier.
And this evening and while they tried hard to put up some resistance, there was just no way to contain the speedier and more experienced Vietnam girls.
By the time, the floodgates opened on seven minutes when Nguyen Thi Thuy Huong latched on to a Hoang Thi Muoi cross, the game was already over.
Thuy Huong added another goal in the 24th minute to be followed by Le Thi Thuy Trang (15th, 21st, 45th and 57th), Le Thi Hong Tuoi (25th, 44th and 80th), Hoang Thi Muoi (51st, 86th, 88th, 90th and 93rd), Le Hoai Luong (59th, 66th, 71st and 76th), Nguyen Kim Anh (85th).
“It was definitely another difficult game coming at the back of the match against Thailand,” added Timor coach Gaspar da Silva. “We had some players injured but we should have enough for the next tie.”
