BANGKOK (18 August 2014) – Thailand picked up their second win in as many matches of the AFF Under-19 Women’s Championship when they blasted Timor Leste 17-0 this evening at the Rajamangala Stadium.
The hosts had beaten Myanmar 3-0 in their first game two days earlier and where with the victory today, the three points moved them to the top of the standings.
“I feel for the Timor girls. It was a hard game for them,” said Thai team manager Dr Kasom Chanawongse. “But in this tournament, goal difference will count, so we have no choice.”
The Timorese, eager to put their disappointing defeat to Singapore behind them, were more resolute in their defending as they attempt to frustrate the Thais at the start.
But it would not take Thailand too long to prise open the Timor defence when in the fifth minute, Sojirat Pradisorn capitalised on a goalkeeper mistake to tap the ball in.
And it took just another five minutes before Leonilda Soares’ goal was beaten again off a close range header from Kullasatree Jaiton.
From then on, it was Thailand all the way as Passanan Thong-im (19th and 32nd minute) and Jiraporn Mongkoldee (28th and 40th) grabbed a brace each and another from Saowalak Pengngam (44th) gave them a healthy 7-0 lead at the break.
“It was a really difficult match,” added Gaspar da Silva, the head coach of Timor. “But the girls tried their best.”
Saowalak went on to score four goals in the second (70th, 78th, 80th and 89th minute) after goals from Sudarat Chuchuen (47th and 90th), Panadda Siserm (49th and 52nd), Jiraporn (51st) and Mutita Senkram (63rd).
