BANGKOK (24 August 2014) – A 1-1 draw in the final round robin tie this evening against Myanmar was enough to put Vietnam in the final of the AFF Under-19 Women’s Championship where they will take on Thailand in two days at the Rajamangala Stadium.
The match was evenly contested with both teams trying hard to get ahead with Vietnam having the better of the handful of chances in the first half when captain Le Hoai Luong struck the woodwork twice.
And in the 23rd minute, Hoai Luong should have put Vietnam ahead but in a one-to-one situation, she shot straight to Vietnam keeper Tran Thi Hai Yen instead.
But just when things seem to be heading for a deadlock at the half, a frantic clearance from the Myanmar backline in the 44th minute saw defender Khin Pyae Lin slotting the ball into her own net.
The heavy downpour at the start of the second half, affected the quality of the match as both teams seem not to be slowing down one bit. Several exchanges later saw a flurry of yellow cards being flashed by referee Li Juan from China.
Myanmar’s persistence paid off in the 64th minute when Wai Zin Hnin slammed home the equaliser but that failed to ignite the game any further as the score remained all the way to the end.
As Vietnam confirmed their place in the final where they will take on Thailand, Myanmar will battle Singapore for the third and fourth classification match.
