BANGKOK (26 August 2014) – Myanmar finished third in the AFF Under-19 Women’s Championship when they beat Singapore 5-0 in the classification match that was played this afternoon at the Rajamangala Stadium.
Head coach Win Myint Thwin said that he is satisfied with the performance even though they did not pile on the goals as they had done previously.
“It was far more important that we just win the game,” said Myint Thwin.
“The victory has at least made up for the disappointment of not making the final. The girls just lost out on goal difference (for a place in the final), so there is a lot of potential in this squad.”
Myanmar, who had beaten the same Singapore side 10-0 in a round robin tie, were confident as they pressed hard through midfielder Yu Per Khine on the left flank.
With the crosses coming in fast and furious, it took Myanmar just five minutes to open account when striker Nilar Win ran in between the Singapore backline to slot the ball home.
The prolific goal-poacher, who had scored twelve goals in the 16-0 demolition of Timor Leste a few days earlier, then added the second goal in the 13th minute when she headed in a superb cross from Per Khine.
Myanmar stepped off the gas somewhat after that as May Sabai Phoo nailed the third goal just before the break for them to be comfortable at 3-0 in front.
Singapore did much of the same hard defending as they had done in the first half and conceded only two more goals after the breather through Per Khine in the 57th minute and then Theint Ko Ko in the 64th minute.
“The matches gave the girls a lot of experience which they are lacking,” said Singapore coach Hyrizan Jufri. “They are young girls with most only 16-years-old, so they would have picked up some good lessons.”
