BANGKOK (20 August 2014) – Myanmar picked up their first win in the AFF Under-19 Women’s Championship when they blasted Singapore 10-0 this evening at the Rajamangala Stadium.
While Myanmar picked up their first three points following their 3-0 loss to hosts Thailand on opening day, the loss for Singapore was their second after their previous 10-0 defeat to Vietnam.
They scored their first win when they beat Timor Leste 4-0 on the first day.
“It was a good comeback from the first loss to Thailand,” said Win Myint Thwin, the head coach of Myanmar. “We will play Timor Leste next which should give our more experienced players the chance to rest.
“We need to prepare for the crucial match against Vietnam. We are still looking to make the final of course.”
Myanmar, eager to put their campaign back on track after the opening day defeat, pulled out all the stops as they pressed Singapore hard from the very first whistle.
And it took them just nine minutes to opened account when the hardworking Nilar Win ran into the box for a shot that came off the woodwork before going into goal.
Singapore custdian Nur Syafiqah Peer Mohamad was beaten again in the 16th minute when Kay Zin Myint scored off a Yu Per Khine’s corner as Nilar then made it 3-0 with her second strike three minutes later.
Yu Per and Su Nandar Lwin made sure Myanmar were comfortable at the break with two more goals in the 40th and 45th minute respectively.
The onslaught continues into the second half with Zin Myint completing her hat-trick in the 51st minute as Nilar then found the back of the net three times more in the 72nd, 74th and 81st minute.
Captain May Sabai Phoo’s 76th minute strike completed the mauling.
