SURABAYA (14 Sept 2013) – Vietnam virtually secured their place in the semifinals after surprising Indonesia 2-1 at the Gelora Delta Sidoarjo here tonight.
Vietnam, one of the most exiciting teams in the tournament so far, showed superb form to recover from an early goal and claim full points.
Indonesia’s Evan Dimas took advantage of a defensive blunder to score in the very first minute, much to the delight of the thousands of their fans.
The celebrations soon died down when Vietnam bounced back through Pham Duc Huy in the 31st minute. Vietnam then doubled the score a few minutes later, this time through the speedy Nguyen Van Toan.
With the win, Vietnam are now top of Group B with a maximum of nine points while Indonesia are second with six points. Myanmar are third with four points while Malaysia are fourth.
Vietnam have faced the tough teams and now have two more games against Myanmar and bottom-placed Brunei.
