HANOI (12 Sept 2014) – The AFF Nutifood Cup 2014 has turned out to be more than just an age-group competition. And this is not only in terms of the quality of the competition but also from the response of the fans.
Ticket sales have been phenomenon. And that is putting it mildly. The fans have been packing the stadium each time Vietnam take to the field.
And they have done consistently so all the way through from the very first match in the group when Vietnam downed Australia by a solitary goal.
With Vietnam doing very well, it has reached an expected crescendo with throng of fans camping outside the headquarters of Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) over the last week.
The price of a ticket to the semi-final match in the black market was around USD 50 while for a pair it is slightly higher. Latest news that filtered through the grapevine has put the price of a final ticket at USD 100 each. And with hours still to go to the big match, that price is not likely to stay static.
And this from a single ticket which had a face value of just USD 5 issued by the national body.
But Vietnam led by inspirational captain Nguyen Cong Phuong have shown that it is worth every single Vietnam Dong that the fans have spent with their excellent display of attacking football.
Come tomorrow when Vietnam take on Japan in the final, the team will be expecting nothing less than a win. So will the fans.
