NAYPYITAW (22 Aug 2013) – Australia scored their second win in as many matches in Group A of the AFF AYA Bank Under-16 Championship this evening when they edged hosts Myanmar 2-0 here at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium.
After demolishing Cambodia 4-0 in their first game two days earlier, the Australians came out with all guns blazing and did not expect a strong fight back from the homesters.
But in the end, the Aussies were just a tad too enterprising when they scored two goals in each half to ensure their second full points in the group.
The first goal came in the 30th minute when off a long cross from the middle of the park, Daniel Maskin cut into the opponent’s box to slam the ball in while the second goal was scored by Joe Caletti in the 62nd minute after some hesitant Myanmar defending.
For Myanmar, there really was no shame in defeat as they put up a much better performance when compared to their first game in the group two days earlier.
They tried hard for the most part but lapses in concentration cost the team in the end.
