VIENTIANE (20 July 2011) – Myanmar staged a fabulous fight back to beat Singapore 2-1 to win third spot in the AFF Under-16 Youth Championship here tonight at the National Stadium.
Singapore had taken the lead in the 35th minute of play when Adam Swandi slammed home for them to take a 1-0 lead at the break.
But Myanmar fought back after the break to score two goals off Phoe La Pyae in the 50th minute and then the winner from Wai Hin Tun in the 62d minute.
Incidentally, Myanmar had also beaten Singapore by the same score line in the group stage.
It was Singapore who had started off strongly where in the fourth minute, Muhammad Zulfadhmi Suzliman broke through the Myanmar defence but his shot went straight to Myanmar keeper Thant Zin Nyo.
Myanmar replied in the 16th minute with an attempt of their own but Aung Thu’s shot was blocked by substitute Singapore custodian Elfi Shahrul Salan.
Singapore again came close ten minutes later but a 25metre drive from Muhammad Muhelmy Suhaimi was parried by Zin Nyo.
However, there was no stopping Singapore from taking the lead in the 35th minute when off a cross from Muhammad Zulfadhmi from the right, Adam blasted the ball in from the far post.
Myanmar were more aggressive in the second half and just five minutes in, La Pyae scored the equaliser off a tight angle from the right.
Seven minutes later and Myanmar put their nose in front for the first time in the game when a shot from Hin Tun ricocheted off Singapore defender R. Aaravin and into goal.
Singapore tried to get back into the game after that and did not losr composure and they came close too in the 72nd minute but Muhammad Irfan Azrin’s attempt was easily saved by Zin Nyo.
